Kuryakyn just changed their Swingwings to only accept the splined adapter. Up till now they used the metric adapter without splines, this has changed. Though many have used these with the standard adapter (8840) without problem it is still a good move n Kuryakyn's part. Problem is there are no adapters for the Thunderbird. Well, maybe there is, but none known at this time and the one listed on their site (8813) for the Rocket III is not even close to working, I just confirmed this personally.

The Swing Wing itself changed, not the part number. So you will find someone that says, "I have Swing Wings on my bike with part number 4467 and it didn't need splined adapters", may true because every one I have sold till now did, the new stuff does not.

I will keep an eye on this adapter thing for obvious reasons and contact Kuryakyn regarding plans to add a splined adapter. They have gone through the effort on some Triumphs in the past and they were not cross over items so maybe they will take the time to accommodate.

Eddie, I've been meaning to ask you, do you know of a harley peg adapter so one could use a standard Harley peg on the bird?

Eddy,

Something you or others may want to keep in mind:

I fitted some Kury gear to my bike by using the Yamaha V-Star adapters I had on my 1100. The only difference is the pin diameter is smaller on the Yammy. So, I drilled the adapter out to 8mm (I think) and it fit fine on the Bird.

Thatch,

I have not seen any of the Harley Pegs, problem with them and any of the metric adapters or pegs is that there is such a wide variety for something so simple. Where the peg lines up with the pin, where it perches for horizontal fit, how wide, how thick...nearly endless possibilities for something so simple. I am sure it is proprietary marketing issues.

Gonzo, PM sent as well. Do you have any trouble with oxidation as a result?
