Ok, so some of you know I tend to whinge a bit about the lack of forethought of most motorcycle gear manufacturers that there are in fact people of substance out there riding bikes (and by substance I mean the big and tall of us out here). Well on one particular thread I was corrected that there are in fact folks that could supply me with proper riding jeans with a 36" inseam and that was Hood Jeans Link Well, it took me a bit but I ended up ordering a pair in preparation of the upcoming trips. Now Hood doesn't custom make these jeans but they do hem to order up to 36" which turns out to be perfect for me. It took all of a weeks time for the jeans to show up and the purchasing process was easy and straight forward. Now that I've had a few rides in them I thought I'd share my thoughts.

First the pics...

These are the K7 jean and are effectively a straight leg jean but with a bit more room than typical to facilitate the riding position. I was glad for this as I have relatively large thighs and often have problems with straight leg jeans but these worked well. The fit really was very good and the inseam was a bit long even (which was perfect once you are riding as the pant stays down were it belongs). All in all the jeans are very good. The quality is great, the denim is heavy and the 'Para-aramid' lining covers almost the full pant (shin down has no lining as shown in the picture above)

You can not tell from the pictures I supplied but as you can see from the one I took from Hood's site, there are no seams above or below the knee (even thought the lining there is doubled and will take armor if you wish). The jeans appear as simply a standard pair of jeans, nothing more, which I quite liked.

The only two niggles I have on the jeans is...

1. I'm not sure a prism will output a purer shade of blue that what these jeans are. They are BLUE... VERY BLUE with no variation in hue at all so they scream "look at my new pants!'. It would be nice if perhaps they had some wash options. Of course in time these will develop a nice personalized coloring, but for now they are a bit 'bold'. (I was actually a bit concerned they might impart blue on my white seat, but they didn't)

2. They are hot. It's not exactly been a scorcher out here but we had a very warm sunny day out yesterday and I was to meet my wife at the base. Well she was late as usual and I was sitting in a parking lot for 30 mins waiting on her.... 30 minutes of sitting still in the sun will remind you just how much protection is in these jeans. While moving it was not even remotely an issue but standing around they did become warm. Is that a fault with the jeans? No, just a fact of wearing this sort of product in the heat and one of it's downsides.

So, am I happy? Very. I think Hood makes a great product that seems to exceed the competition which was lucky for me, as they are the only ones that could fulfill my sizing needs. If you need a pair of riding jeans I would definitely look up Hood.

Thought you would like them Thatch, I went for black and they are wearing well. So that new kegs look will soon go.

Yeah Thanks Blue. I looked around at every other manufacturer and Hood was the only one that made an inseam long enough. On top of that the standard look is much better than the other folks. Good call.

Oh and thanks for the compliment on th box. It's my latest toy. I've got 3 of them now. This is my Lowebow, lots of fun to play with.

I would seriously like to order a pair of these, but feel a little reluctent to order without trying them on!
My 'challenge' is the fact that I still have my thunder thighs from the rugby days - so I usually have problems! That's why I like to try first....

I'll just have to bite the bullet I suppose.

They do have a return policy on them Birdy (which made me feel better) and I have rather large thighs as well and they fit me pretty well. I suspect you would be pleased with them.
