Hey N L have you had a chance to sort the fuel issue yet?

That's weird... I could have SWORN that I posted the results of my test! Crikey! All that typing and then I didn't hit the "Submit Post" button?

Anyway... I ran through a half tank up in the foothills west of Denver on Monday. All I did was replace the Monza cap with the stock cap and was hauling the same load as I was on Friday.

First thing I did was to go top off the tank to see what the mpg was on Friday's last leg: 46mpg.

Then, I headed west into the Foothills to get some elevation gain and temperature drop... highest was 69 and the lowest was 50. After about 80 miles, I topped off again: 51mpg.

FYI: I didn't smell ANY gas while riding at all.

So, while not definitive, it looks like it's definitely possible the culprit was that damned Monza cap. British Customs talked me through my install to make sure I'd assembled it correctly... which I did. So, they'll be taking it back for a full refund.

Again, I'm NOT totally convinced it was the complete cause of that big dip into the 32mpg range, but at least I've eliminated it as a variable. I totally expect my mpg to vary and can accept a range from 50 to 43 or so... but dipping into the low 30s was troublesome to me.

On a similar topic: While doing my last top-off, the freaking nozzle at the pump back-sprayed... shooting gas all over my tank bag, my jacket and fleece layer! I'm having a BITCH of a time getting the gas smell out. A quick Google search yielded some suggestions of using a cup of vinegar in the wash cycle... haven't tried that yet. Anybody got any tips for getting smelly, stubborn gas smell out of motorcycle gear?

Reminds me of when my wife went to savannah last year. Went to fuel up the bikes and while holding the nozzle I flipped the switch on the pump not realizing the nozzle was stuck open Not only did I spray the wifes bike but the wife also I went inside to tell them and the pakis had no idea what I was saying So I gave them a good english lesson with sign language and told them how to be sexually self sufficiant As for the smell I think she washed her clothes a couple of times.

The smell came out of my pants on the first wash, but was still really strong on my jacket and the 2 layers I had on. I let that stuff stay out in the sun, but the rain is stubbornly hanging on this month. Second wash reduced it, but it was still pretty strong. I found a website that suggested a cup of white vinegar... gave it a try and it really worked! It's gone from my jacket, but still vaguely there on my fleece (it got the brunt of the gas)... just gonna let the stuff air outside (if this freaking rain ever stops!)
