I finally got around to fitting my new pillion touring seat ( ZA9700226) a couple of days ago. Went for a ride, thankfully without a pillion and after about 30km's the seat came off and went bouncing down the highway.
I retrieved it and found that the 2 rivets that hold the small crome bracket at the rear of the seat, to the seat base, were way to short to pass through the seat and work properly.
The leather is now scratched and holed, but more importantly it's hellishly dangerous , I was very angry, it doesn't take much to imagine the consequences if I'd had a pillion.

There was a recall on the stock pillion seat, I had it taken care of during the 10000 km service. They replaced the brackets on the seat and fender.

I agree that caused a bit of anxiety, however, the front bracket that hooks the pillion under the riders seat would hold the pillion on and not come off if there was weight on the pillion seat. It was the bouncing around without the rear bracket fastened that caused it to come unhinged from the main bracket (the front one). In short, even though the seat was made incorrectly you can have the saving grace your passenger would not have come off the bike.

There was a recall, but it was for the front bracket not the rear one.

The recall replaced both brackets that hold the pillion to the rider seat (front on the pillion and the rear of the rider). This, however wouldn't affect the OP putting on his long haul pillion. It was either a poorly manufactured one, or he tried to fit the long haul pillion with the stock rider seat, which, according to Triumph, does not fit.

Just had a similar problem. When I got home, through town traffic, I discovered the pillion had fallen off. Got no idea when, felt nothing. Bolts gone, seats gone. It was definitely on when I left and I have never taken it off. No need to.

Never had the bracket changed but mine was bought in early April 2011. Though it seems to come up through the vin number as a 2010 bird.

I'm guessing I should have a good case for warranty replacement then?

You seem awfully nonchalant Steve. Hope your pillion finds her way home eventually!

Best money I ever spent.

which seat did you have , the long haul or the standard?
Triumph were really good with me, even though I brought the seat in the USA , Triumph New Zealand replaced it no questions asked.
With mine, the rear bracket was left bolted on the guard, the rivets were still in it and were too short to have completely gone through the base of the seat.
Hope they sort it out for you.

Wish it was true then I might have recovered the seat, not sure I'd want some of them to find their way home anyway.

It was the standard seat. I'll have to ring the dealer in the morning. The seat shouldn't just fall off, you'd think I'd have noticed.
