Keep the style, add a disk and bung in a bigger motor with a longer stroke and triumph will be onto a real winner.

Totally agree, when I visted my nearest dealer I was going to look at the Rocket III as soon as I set my eye's on the T'Bird it was love at first sight and have never looked back or longed for any other model.

First up in the door was a Thruxton - absolutely loved the look of it but at 6,2 I don't need a mini bike for the bride and I. Next in the door was a speed master - great looking bike and after an hour of walking around it and being brain washed by the salesman I was about to throw some cash at him and then way down the other end of the show room past the bonnie, tiger and rocket was my bird singing out to me. I didn't even know the model existed. I had done no research but after a 1/2 hour ride I was signing on the dotted line. How could you go past it, it has all the style and some of a HD but won't break every time I ride it like my last HD. Reliable, stylish and fits like a glove - lovin it. However if I was a little bloke I would have seriously considered the thruxton or speedy considering how much cheaper they are. Here is Oz you can pick up a nice second hand speedy for 1/2 the price of a Bird.

yeah ... was the roadster or the tbird.
roadster... tbird.... after a lot of humming and harring, sitting and balancing, riding and testing - tbird
that said I do like the rocket with a zard underslung exhaust. seen two now 1 windy corner and 1 in durham.
tried the speedy first but not the bike for me. they now are fitting that ugly tbird headlight to it too

i had a thruxton, lovely to look at and a whizz outside a cafe or pub but to ride ..... no. cornering around the little lanes it was crap. lovely on the open sweepy corners but got rid within the year. the lass thought it was me getting old and losing it ( as if ) until a mate we ride with got one.... he had the same issues and no longer has his either.

My buddy told me the same and said don't sell it for the Tbird, you'll be sorry. To this day he always tells me how wrong he was to say that. And when i look at my bird today with the Tbars and shorties and a bunch of chrome accessories, it's just no contest. I would defy anyone to put any speedy next to my bird on a sunny day and tell me the bird doesn't beat the crap out of it.
It is after all subjective, but when something is gorgeous to the vast majority of people it begins to become less than subjective. That said, consider this....maybe it's just coincidence, but i probably get 3-4 compliments on my Tbird for every one i got with the speedy. It's just a daily occurrence. Last time it happened was just about an hour ago.

Yep, Just got back from a local show and shine hot rod show. The local Outlaw Motorcycle gang showed up in numbers making plenty of noise on there HD's. They parked there bikes and then swanned around as they do. Do you think punters stopped admiring there bikes? Answer - No. However I left with people lining up taking pics of my bird (and bride) why doesn't anyone want me in the pic?

Unfortunately there is a huge gap in the Triumph range because the only realistic step up from the Bonneville is the Thunderbird.... and that is a HYOOGE price jump.
So I got a Thunderbird.
Just wish there was somewhere to attach bungees when I put a bag on the passenger seat.... can't be having with that sissy-bar nonsense. I've got one for holidays, but I feel like a pratt when it's attached on the daily commute into London.

There is. On both the speedmaster and the Tbird. I used to do it all the time on my speedmaster, tho on the bird i don't because i removed the passenger seat. But it has the same provisions....the fender rail. Theres just enough room between the rail and the fender for a bungee hook. Just make sure they have the runner tips so you don't scratch the paint when putting them in. If the bungee hasn't got the plastic/rubber tip, just put some heat shrink on the end or just be slow and carefull when hooking it in.

If you have the "fixed" sissy bar, might be worth considering the QR version. Piece of cake to swap from solo to 2-up then back. And gives you the tie down locations when solo. nice combo of form and function.
