Most Givi cases don't have a front/rear direction, so I don't know why they did it to these. The cases are small, so I can't imagine too much aerodynamic advantage to that "hump"... unless there supposed to give your bike's ass a bit a lift: "Givi gives you wings!"

Seriously, there's also a bit of a sharper angle to the rear side of the case.

Still, your cases look just fine the way there are. Nice to have a bit of storage you can lock, huh?

It is great to have lockable storage available. Nice to have stuff stowed away somewhat securely. Hopefully out of sight and all that.

I do like how the cases look regardless of the direction they are facing. I think they look fine on the bike either way and am happy you suggested them. These will work out perfectly for me.

Actually I'm starting to like these!

I was out in the garage yesterday checking over the 'Bird, looking at how to mount a drinking water bottle and started to wonder how hard case luggage bags would sit.

Mmmm...
So basically, all I need is another Easy Bracket (NOT THE SPOOLS) and some Givi's...

Right hand - hard luggage
Left hand - Touratech Jacket

LOL! Your left hand better be a lot bigger... a Touratech jacket will cost you more than those E21s!

I believe Mark is using the Easy Brackets for the Thunderbird... you just need to order them from Fast Eddy and specify you need the brackets for use with the sissy bar.

Narsisco is correct as I did use the Fast Eddy brackets and GIVI E21 cases at his recommendation. I saw these first on Narsisco's bike and really liked how they looked. I used his write up and guidance and installed the cases (backwards apparently!).

Turns out I like having the lower side of the case towards the front as it makes more room for my leg to clear as I get on the bike. I was scuffing the right case a bit with my boot as I swung a leg over. I adjusted how I get on the bike and no longer do that. Having the low side of the case frontwards helped that a bit.

Another bonus I think I mentioned in an earlier post is the Tiger 1050 right side (exhaust side) pannier liner fits perfectly in the GIVI E21 case. I had one from my previous Tiger and just had to locate another set for sale. I do have two extra left side pannier liners but they make good carry on luggage!

Installation for the luggage brackets really is as simple as following the directions that come with the Fast Eddy kit. He has great stuff for the Thunderbird and is, by all accounts, a great guy to work with. The GIVI cases need some holes drilled to line up with the brackets but that is easy if you take your time and measure carefully.

It's an inexpensive way to install hard cases on your Thunderbird. I think they are perfect. They sure work well for everything I needed.

@ChubbyDodds and Narsisco

seems both of you are using TORs, short or long. Did you experience any excessive heat in the Givis? Just wondering about a long trip and the impact of 60+ degrees celsius on the content of the panniers. The shirts and jeans would be ironed, but cheese-sandwiches ....

All experiences welcome!

Martin

Hey Martin,

I've got shorties and have absolutely NO heat issue with the Givis. Nothing even remotely warm inside the case, as far as I can tell. While these are "economy" cases, they're still Givi quality and the material seems pretty rugged to me. Obviously, they're not gonna take the abuse of the higher end Givis, but they do pretty well. I don't think you'd have to worry about heat at all.

No heat issues with the Long TORs and GIVIs either. I'm taking a longer trip this weekend and will have a better feel for it after that. I'm not expecting any issues based on blasting back and forth to work in heavy traffic.

This is a great forum even if it seems to cost me money every time I log on!

I've gotta say again that these Givi E21s are one hell of a bargain as compared to the other side case/saddle bag options we've got for the 'Bird. If you look at my Denver to White Sands National Monument thread you'll see my camping gear takes up most of the space in the cases (yes, I'm packed TO THE GILLS!, but I'll be on the road for 3-4 weeks). Notwithstanding long trips or 2-up trips, the size of these "economy" cases is just about perfect for commuting/daily use where you need a lockable system. Again, you really can't beat the price for what you get.

just a reminder to those interested in the givi e21.
the kappa k21 are made from the same mould and are cheaper. will have a pic of the bags soon on the what happened to the dent thread.

after seeing narciscos i went for the k21 and even at 5kg (fully laden) and at speeds in maybe 3 digits there are no issues with the easy brackets from eddy, short tors or the weather proofing of the cases.

spot on from narcisco

That's right... I'd forgotten you found those Kappas, Zolti. For those in the Euro market, it looks like a better deal and they seem to be the same, exact case...

Went on a 550 mile trip the last few days and have nothing but good to report on the GIVI E21s and Fast Eddy's Easy Brackets. The cases didn't let a drop of water in even with a 4" rainfall on Friday! They made it through a near monsoon, heavy fog and drizzle and endless road spray without any issues.

They stayed a lot drier than the rider that's for sure!

You will probs be needing the easy brackets sold by our very own Mr Fasteddy. He is about to set of on holiday so have a look at his site.

Hey Ken:

FYI: you WILL have to drill holes in the E21s to fit the Easy Brackets
As you can see from the top of this thread, it's pretty easy!

Thanks for the info and links. How did you attach the Easy Brackets to the Givi bags? I want to make sure that I'll still be able to use them on the FZ1. Also, do you think I can find a bracket for the rear bag? Thanks again.
