I put them up against my tank and the curve is varey close to it.They have two nipples on the back that would have to be shaved off but it looks to me like they will work. The America badge is silver with the word Triumph in black. The R3 badge is all silver, just a thought for the guys that don't care for the plain badge that comes on our bikes.

I know that stuff is strong, but those badges are heavy. I read a article maybe 8 months ago about the Tbird where a triumph rep said the Tbird WILL have optional badges available. As we see there aren't any at this point, but maybe soon, who knows. I'd sure like a bigger more traditional badge. but i can't help but wonder whether they may have used the non traditional one they did because they found the traditional ones didn't look right on this tank shape. They did the same to the speedy/america too when the tank shape was changed, so it makes me wonder.

Not crazy bout those, but you also mentioned the '909 R3 and i DO like those, as they look like the speedmaster badges from back before they changed the tank. are those also plastic stick on? Because if they are and if they fit the curve i'm in. Are you saying you HAVE one each from a '09 r3 and america? Did you order them? If so, how much for the R3 one, and do you think it will fit the curve of the tank right?

The R3 isn't the same badge as the america/speedmaster at all, but the R3 TOURING is the same. I wish it WAS the R3 standard that was usable because it looks like the old speedmaster logo which is one of the vintage types. I'm not crazy about the one on the 900 cruisers and R3 touring so i'm out. Hopefully tho they will offer a better more vintage one eventually like they have said in the Okay, i see where the confusion is. OK - I'm going to be fitting these from the Rocket III tourer:
Facts: - Part # (right side): T2409020 'BADGE, FUEL TANK, RH' - It's plastic - Double sided stick tape application - You have to 'bend the badge slightly (or put it in a warm oven for a minuet - bend it and let it cool)
I have taken it home to paint - I will fill the background black and fill the text in white! I'll post some pictures once they are fitted!

I think once you get the contrasting paint in place it will look pretty sharp. I'm anxious to see this one. What did you have to spend for the badges?
Oh, and where does the bend take place? Is it on the eyebrow or the name area? I ask because the standard Rocket III badge is a bit more to my liking and it's just the text.

Price... I forgot to ask! Doooh.....
Bend - its simply a matter of 'flattening' the bow in the badge. The Rocket tank curves more (when looking vertically down on top of the tank) - The Thunderbird has a more flater profile. Another way to explain is - when you place the badge onto the tank, the two end points touch first. You then have to press in the middle of the badge to make it touch the tank. "How much does it bend?" you ask - about 7 to 10 mm (if not less). So I think - if you get it hot enough (it's plastic) - reform it and let it cool - TAA-DAAAAA! FINITO!

Here you go...
- I used an 'Off-White' (egg-white) for the writing 'Triumph' - I filled the background with matt black!
Feedbacks: I WILL be painting over the matt black with a gloss black! The matt black just doesn't look right to my eyes.
Will go to the dealer tomorrow to collect the left side badge and hand over this one. Hopefully when the paint is dried - they might fit it!? If they do - expect photos....

Yes painted them myself. You just need to have half a bottle of wine before you start - calm the nerves down
I believe a white background and black text would be good on the Silver Birds

No... Seriously - Here you go - Stef wanted to photograph me while I was painting! It blinded me for a good while. But actually I'm glad he did - otherwise I wouldn't have the images. Always nice to look back and wonder.

Ok, did I miss this post? Those look great Birdy. The flat black looks great to me but I can see on the bike that perhaps that won't look right. If on a gloss tank if it looks like the background is a cut through it might look odd. Hard to say without it mounted. Will that 3m tape make it through the heating / bending process?
I think those are going to look great. Good job.

You really have me worried now Thatch!
But I was thinking... (which has been proven- is not always a good thing) ... maybe I can put it in the Microwave for 10 seconds or so You know - just make it nice and warm/flexy. That way the 3M would be OK rather than a heat gun.
What do you people think?

I think about 150 F (what ever that is in those funny numbers you folks use :) ) will be the least likely to cause damage. If the tape doesn't make it you can fairly easy replace that.... I'm betting while not actual chrome there is metal content in the 'chrome' on those badges and it will spark and you'll end up with little pin holes all over the surface of the badges if you put them in the microwave.
Sorry to worry you, it was just a curiosity on the tape. Worst case scenario is that it looses tack.
