Has anyone done a tail light/brake light conversion with the Thunderbird 1600? I was told there is one on Custom Dynamics that works with the Thunderbird, but is generic metric. If so, does it have a pulsing action available on the conversion? This conversion still lets you use your turn signals, but uses the rear lamps as brake lights, for much better visibility. Anyone find another conversion kit that works well on your Thunderbird? Anything that keeps idiots from running motorcyclists over is fair game to me, that includes the Stebel Air Horn and tail light conversions.

I've set up a RIVCO flasher from fasteddy. Added RIVCO miin-LEDs and I just used the RIVCO metal tabs (95% covered) by my tag plate.
I notice folks do STFB a lot better.

Hi, Did you install a Stebel horn? If so would it be possible to post a pic on how it looks etc.

Thanks,

Capt T

I re-worked the liscence plate mounting shorter, the reflector is gone and added a chrome frame with LEDs from JP cycles. wired to the tail light assembly, so it added both brake a running lights, much more visable than the stock reflector. I am still thinking about converting the turn signal lights to a 3 wire set up to be running lights. But may just add a set of running lights instead: 2 ambers and 2 reds. and leave the turn signal alone.

I made a tidy conversion from the crappy plastic duck tail to one using Arlen Ness Radius plate holder with LED lighting and red running light.

Also used their backing plates:

I thought I've put up a photo of this already, but if not and you want to have a look, just let me know.

G'day Gonzo.

If you get a chance I'd like a look at your licence plate set up. I was going to leave the tail light and just wanted a chrome frame with the Led's built in for the number plate light. But from the measurements I found. I didn't think they would fit the Aussie plate.
Cheers

Nah, don't change the tail light / brake light. One of the best things of the Bird. Actually designed well. No episode of "Triumph Designers" possible with that. :)

But the licence plate light can go if you go with the Arlen Ness setup. I also attached one of those roll tube rego sticker holders.

You can cut off a bit of that plastic duck tail while you are there. The only tricky bit is mounting the radius backing plate to the duck tail, once it is all assembled with number plate in place. I solved that with cunning use of three alen keys welded together to not allow the bolts to rotate. (You'll see what I mean when you buy it.)

Well, it mostly does. :)
You'll see in the picture that I had bash down the top left and botton left points of the R and a bit of the 3. And had to trim the number plate on the bottom and sides. You have to be adventurous. :)
