| Posted : 23 Nov 2010 - 08:21 Post title : researching dresser bar attached chaps or lower fairing | | Installed the engine dresser bars aka crash bars and happy with the way they fit so well. My other bike a Vtwin Shadow has a set of soft vinyl "crash bar chaps" that have a screened cut out for the radiator and do a great job of protecting your feet from the icy cold as well as the bug protection for the radiator. Florida has radiator clogging Love Bugs at times. With the exhaust design of the Thunderbird I can see that anything on the engine guards and touching would soon be smoking hot, smoldering or on fire. Has anyone seen or fitted some lower fairing?

Leather wraps and Bibs as you describe, that cover the space, but nothing for this bike specifically. It's all Harley stuff. And there is not much room.
For the lovebugs, I'd just rig a screen and try not to smile.

The ride is much less windy and there is even less or perhaps totally zero wind buffetting at all now. Huge difference from the tiny ones Triumph put there. Got in a nice Christmas day ride with the wife. Wishing everyone on all continents a Merry Christmas and a safe and healthy New Year.

Does it stick out further than the windscreen? Does it make contact with the tank or frame on full lock? Would you post a pic from a distance showing the front end?
Thanks, Mick

How about the ones you built for your bike?

| Posted : 29 Dec 2010 - 17:13 Post title : Re: Larger lowers installed-much less wind "buffetting"(pics) (Re: MickeyBoy) | | The things I built for my scooter are lowers and, believe it or not, they actually work.lol I mean,it's not like riding in your car,but they do offer decent protection from the elements. The weather around here over the last several weeks was in the lower 20's and teens amd those lowers did keep the wind and cold air from hitting me directly in the legs and feet. And even though I wear heated socks and pants,I found that I didn't have to turn em on unless the temp dropped to the single numbers or I was gonna be out for any long periods of time.
Increasing the size of those wind deflecters,as this gentleman did,was my next project as it is quite easy to do,but I could not see any beneficial gain for cold weather ridin, hence the reason I went with the lowers first.I'll eventually do the wind deflector thing once the warm weather comes back cause that's when I'll be removing my lowers. I'll let you guys know if it was worth it or not. We'll see.lol Dave!!!

I ahve gone to the extreme of a fairing to allow extended riding. but in many ways the simpler fly screens ro cowling covers do a job too.
as for me: a full fairing bike is a goldwing or electra glide or somesuch.
watch a few years and Triumph will either intro a full skirted touring bike or an entrepeneur will make one available.
but one must admire the creativity here!
