Do you have any fuse/fusable link in between the battery and the unit?
Nevermind... actually clicked on your first link and saw the harness

If you go to the battery and don't use a switched connection the GPS will not go on and off automatically. That's a nice feature, especially of you forget and leave it on for a day or two.

This is true, but it takes a week or more to run the battery down with the GPS on. I have empirically determined this
On the other hand, it is nice to be able to charge the phone when at a rest stop or gas station.

Good idea! It also solves the problem of running wires under the tank.

I installed a Go Cruise brand which mounted straight to the battery & had handlebar mounting bracket with the kit. The GPS is detachable from the mounting bracket I fitted one to the Bonnie last year & had no battery problems with either bike. The bracket is also removable & cable unscrews from a sealed plug fitting near the triple tree. the rest of the hard wiring is fused & can stay connected
