We all seem to have experienced various random engine noises when our bikes were new. What about those who got thier bikes BB'd after the noises in thier 1600 had settled down....did they come back after the kit was installed and then settle down again once well broken in? I'm just curious because it might be a clue as to where those noises came from, or at least rule out certain things.

But hey - the 'characteristic sounds' of my 'Bird are not an issue for me.

Looks like Thatch did find the 1700 was quieter. Maybe as has been suggested the bike was indeed designed as a 1700 and downsized to 1600 to create the profitable upgrade path, and as a 1700 it's in better balance. This is a real curiosity to me tho because it's one thing to hears noises which is normal to some degree for any engine. But random noises are always a bit worrisome. If mine is quiet in that regard when i get it back that will be a nice bonus.

The top end noise that I started with had started to dissipate by then and were not renewed with the installation of the BB kit. I didn't get the feeling that the initial noises were associated with the parts that were swapped with the kit.
