Greetings from Big Bear Ca. where the weather is a bit Nordic, that is a bit over freezing point.

Left San Diego Oceanside on Friday 29 Oct together with wife Marit. Saddlebags prop filed and a
Flight case on the luggage rack weighing apr 20 kilos (max 5 kg on the sticker). Over the Anza Borrego Desert and
Santa Rosa Mountains down to Palm Springs. What a wonderful ride.

Jap cuisine in Palm Springs and a few drinks.

Next morning from Palm Springs to Desert Center (this time remembered to fill the tank, "remember Gary?")
- Vidal Junction- Earp - Parker Dam - Lake Havasu City - a short ride on the route 66 to Kingman for the night.

So far no problemos, the only thing I was concerned of was my rear tire that had already over 7300 miles on it.
But then I could not see any polyester mesh showing and the roads where dry.

From Kingman up north to The Grand Canyon and 26 miles of dirt road, was like riding on marbles, but one gets
used to it. And again how about the rear tire, sharp stones and rocks. Luckily on a few not so deep cuts.

From the Canyons to Las Vegas and some Halloween carnival...................

From Las Vegas to Big Bear and finally some twisted mountain roads. This felt really good because I had
still enough tire pattern on the sides that needed some wear.

Tomorrow still a 2 hour ride home to Oceanside, and thats on the other side of the mountain.

Great pics. Love those quiet desert roads. Nice to see your square tyre has held up.

Yeah.... Don't you just hate all that traffic!

Two things are for sure:
1) Get a new tyre
2) DEFIANTLY get the air filter changed after seeing those pictures

How does the 'Bird handle so loaded?
I mean - 20 kg hanging out back + wife + saddlebags?

And then you see the picture of the bike at the side of the road - it looks soooo sporty somehow

Lets see, the suspension is on nr 2 and the wife is not that heavy apr 60kg and me 77kg so that
only 1/2 of some HD riders ive seen on the road

A bit heavy to turn in the twisties but easier than the Speedmaster with equal loads.

The rear tire has still to take me home to Oceanside from Big Bear, but its mostly down hill and
the threads are still not showing

Hope my dealer will wash the bike before he puts on a new tire. I think I have to put a new front tire as well.
theres only a mm left of the wear.

The issue is still there will it be Metz, Avon or...................??

Looks like a great trip Just the sort of thing me and my 'Bird like doing. Only got 6k out of my rear though 12k from the front. Like a bit of tread to cope with Blighty being wet 'en all that.

Loved looking at your pics after my day at work. Traveling by bike is great way to travel, with the money we save on gas, we spend on tires. But then again the view from the bike is worth it all.

More pics from today.

And finally home in one piece.

For navigation I used my Android phone, Samsung Galaxy i9000 and the CoPilot navigation program and map that functioned
as a Swiss watch, phone mounted on a Nokia car mount.

And one more thing, the Triumph Summer Screen was super, no buffeting at all.

great pics. Really makes me want to head out towards the deserts, which are probably my fav rides. Something so peaceful out there. Be careful of those dirt roads tho....pebbles/rocks are belt killers.

Looks like you had a lot of fun, great picts and I'm sure glad your tire held up.

I like the setup you used for your phone, what app do you use for navigation?

For navigation I use the CoPilot app very cheap, if I remember it cost me 24bucks
to download and consists Canada, USA and Mexico. The phone holder is the cheapest
Nokia and the clamp 25 mm clamp is from West Marine.

Cruise control from WestMarine, sealant o-ring, been in use for 1 year

and planing the next trip.......................

About the Tire, I??m waiting for it to blow any moment now.

Is there anyone trying the 2-compound tire? hard in the middle and soft outside? have only heard that there is one
but dont know the brand.

Thanks for the info. I never would have thought of using an "O" ring for a cruise control, another thing I'll have to try.

I think Michelin has the dual compound, but not sure.

I see you found the Starbucks in Big Bear. How about that cup of coffee next week? You ride here or I'll ride there.

As an Army Reservist I have to be in uniform this weekend. Maybe sometime during the week or possibly next weekend?
