Metzeler ME880 200/50 is on back order from importer and it suppose to arrive in Finland in november..... My tyre guy suggested to go with Pirelli Diablo 200/50 ZR17 or Metzeler ME880 200/55 Z17. What do you think? He admitted that Pirelli has softer compund which will mean shorter mileage but better grip. Metzeler is tad higher and at least the 200/50 is a bit slippery now in autumn.

Tyre job is scheduled to be this friday at 1330hr and I'm having hard time deciding which one to go with

I have absolutely no experience, and I can't help you there Sam...

I too will be having my 10'000 km service + new tyres in the next week or two - so I'm keen to see what people give for feedbacks here!

I'm running the Pirelli Night Dragons with a 200/55-17 rear and really like them so far. I hate Metzlers.

Well, today is the day. I decided (I think) to get the Pirelli Diablo. It was below zero (under 32 F) degrees when I rode to work this morning so I'm pretty much done for this season but maybe I have a chance to push it a a little to get some first impressions of the tire.
Any burnout tips for the old 'Metz'? Naah, not gonna do it => I'll propably end up tipping the bike over and kicking myself rest of the year.

Yeah - I looked into them and only saw that Pirelli do the 200/55 - I didn't see any 200/50 !?

You didn't let me down CornerBanger! I knew, that if I mention something about burning rubber, you will comment

Now, old tire is bye gones, but for the future; have you had any moments while starting to burn it, that front end is slipping away? Or is it just squeeze the front brake lever, full throttle and quick release of the clutch?

I've been running the Avon Storm 2 Ultra and LOVE it. It tracks straight as an arrow, flicks side to side easily and leans over further than I want to go with no drama at all. Braking is excellent wet or dry and I just simply have no complaints. The dealer tells me it should AT LEAST double the wear of the original tire. I highly recommend it on the TBird.

Sorry but my only experience with Pirelli was buying them for the cruisers of the Sheriff's Department I commanded. We took them off and threw them away in less than a month due to uneven wear and poor wet weather capability.

Yes your front tire will start dragging and the bike going forward (not rapidly but forward none the less) if you dont get the back tire broken loose. The trick is to not sit on the bike (less weight the better) rev the engine to about 3000 and release the clutch rapidly. You dont have to pop it just release it very fast. Once the tire is spinning you can keep it spinning forever by feathering the gas.

My metz is close to the end. When it is time I am going to film a burnout/donut session and post it for everyone's amusement!!

Supposing I drop it, yes, I am not too proud. Dropping is not out of the question, hell people do it in the parking lot standing still, but not very likely. Oh wait a minute, how do you do a burn out again, I have never done one before

Please don't take offense to my comment.I was only makin a little humor to match yours.Like you said, dropping it is not out of the question.People do it all the time just moving their machines around slowly in a parkin lot,let alone doin a burn out/donut.I've embarrassed myself several times over the years doin just that and then lookin around to see if anyone saw it.Most embarrassing.lol Dave!!!

No offense taken, just being sarcastic... And like I said if gravity wins, I will leave that in as well because that how it goes some times...

Bleach and water on asphalt do wonders for a burnout. Donughts? I'll stick to eating them.
