If/when I get a new 1700 Thunderbird I would like to keep the "long haul" touring seat for any long trips, but I would like to have the solo seat for around town and short distance trips. I have had backrests on my last three bikes and really like them...was just wondering if Triumph has a set up that you can have one with the solo seat.

The rider backrest will only fit on the dual touring seat. Bit of a bummer that if you want to go to the solo long haul seat (a more comfy option) you can not have the backrest, and you also have to buy the long haul pillion seat to match. Maybe by the time you get home things may have changed.

I can have the backrest on that long haul seat (which I would if I do get the 'bird), it's just like someone else on here mentioned once you have used one (backrest) it's kind of hard to go without one. Like you said...a lot can happen in the next almost 6 months for me...maybe one will come out for it.

It looked like (as far as I can remember it....sold it in April) that the bottom of the bracket was bolted into the middle of the seat pan after a hole was made to insert the backrest "rod". In a solo seat (Triumph's anyway) I don't think there will be any room to cut a hole or to bolt anything to underneath that seat.
