I will be taking the bike in for the 12k soon and i want to be ready to deal with this issue by arming myself with the facts. Those being exactly what you guys who have been thru this know and what i need to tell the mechanic. If he has yet to run into this issue and fix it, i need to be able to tell him what other bird owner's dealer's did to make the belt run right with the wheel in alignment. I recall one of you recently saying they replaced the belt and pulleys. But is that all they did or did they replace those because of possible damage to them from running it like that and actually the FIX itself was something else like engine alignment? Or was it a defect in the belt or one of the pulleys? Any info you can give me will help. He may not know much or anything about this issue, and if thats the case i don't want my bike to sit in his shop for a month while he communicates with triumph trying to get the lowdown on the issue and how to fix it. So i need to know what to tell him to steer him in the right direction. also, those who've had thier dealers successfully fix the issue, can you please give me your dealer's name and location and if possible phone number so i can give them to my mech so he can find out what they know about it if necassary? Thanks.

Well , by the sounds of things I am the only person to hand the Bird back cos of a belt issue. The first lasted just 5K , bearing in mind I got the bike with 3.8k on it as it was a Hinkley owned bike so I thought I was safe at that. It started shreading on the outer edge, only stopped when I realigned the wheel (after informing and letting the tech guys have a goggle at it first). It went in to have another fitted ,they also changed the pulley saying that was the cause. Well it wasn't the cause cos the belt started to go after another 1k . That led to much head scratching and chin rubbing. At this point I was thinking of my traded Honda VFR, never a moments bother in two years, how much bother is this belt going to be, have they stepped into muddy waters using industrial pulleys.
I wanted rid of a troubled Bird and decided to give another Bird a go, so over the desk went another couple of k and out came an exact same model but new. 3.2k in 9 weeks and not a bit of rubber off the belt.
So although I got sorted I shall never know the outcome. It was more than alignment. I have put it down to it being one of the first Birds released and probs had a few rush mods made to it.

This probably does not help you ,but i do think there is an engine alignment problem that can rear its ugly head. These belts are supposed to last into the 60k area so they are a tough cookie. Even with the wheel out of line , it does not seem to bother the belt that much. Many on here have said that to get the wheel in line the marks are out on either side, well i cannot see that as these bikes like others are built on computers , and for those lines to be out would be a sure fire way for everyone of us to claim for a new belt if there was to be a problem after a wheel removal.

Hope some of this helps.
