So I *THINK* I have made up my mind on saddlebags. I figure these shock cut-away bags ( Link ) along with Easy Brackets would fit the bike well... But having no experience with Saddlemen and little with saddlebags at all, I am wondering if the quality will be ok.
Anyone tried those or similar bags? Holding up ok?

+1. Have a set of the shock cutaway teardrop bags on my Sportster. They're okay, not the sturdiest ever, but for the price I think it was a fair deal.

Are those the 112+2 bags? Any more photos? Did you mount them with easy brackets?

They are 128's with some extra"s. Added Basket weave accents and hand braided edges as well as their new locking kit. ( BTW the locking kit woks great and was only about $65 more) They are mounted with easy brackets, I like them and have installed them on 2 other bikes and have not had any issues with them. I put a pair of the leatherworks bags on a dyna that has been everywhere all across the country with them, they wear like iron. I also like the bungee hook attachments on the top corners of the bags, it makes it easy to lash down whatever wont fit inside them.

Here are a few pics. If you need a particular angle, let me know.

I fitted Saddlemen Desperado Teardrop bads to my Bird, with EasyBrackets. Both were fine, the quality of the bags seems great for the price, and the shock cut-out means they get nice'n'close.

There are photos at Link but I notice that the photo showing the bags fully loaded has disappeared. Not sure why that should be. Here it is again, in glorious Technicolor:

Installed my new LeatherWorks 128 bags with Easy Brackets. I am really happy I spent a few extra dollars on some quality bags.

I like the looks of those Very nice. A little similar to those of mine - Willie & Max Saddlebags, Ranger Large Slant on Easy Brackets that FastEddy got me.

Well done.
So where's the first long road trip taking you

The Willie and Max bags were also on my short list. I just couldn't find any locally to check out.
The season is winding down up here but hopefully a few weekend get-aways along the St. Lawarence River will happen before winter sets in. I also mapped out a nice trip thru Northern Quebec and Northern Ontario for next spring that should be quite nice.
I will probably add the luggage rack to the sissy bar for a piece of rear luggage for that trip so I can pack a few extra sweaters!
:)

That's my style too

But we all know FastEddy....
All he needs is an empty matchbox for storage space!

The really good news is that they will hold up for years to come. I was just looking at the ones I installed on a friends Dyna 4 years ago and even though they have seen 30+k worth of freighted mileage, they still look great.

I have the Saddleman Teardrop bags with the Easy Brackets. The bags look good on the bike, but the leather is pretty flimsy and they are not waterproof like other bags I have owned (which I learned the hard way). The teardrop bags are a good size and good value for the money, but I am really considering changing them out.

Hello All, new to Thunderbird 1600, like 2 days and new here to the forum. But I have had a few sets of Saddlemen Bags and for me they totally sucked after a few years and not worth the money. Ok I'm bitter but I'm allowed to rant a little on the internet. And Saddlemen company if your reading this-this is what happens when customers call for help and you ignore them.....I'm still waiting for those plastic shape holders on the tops that you promised me-they warped in a week .

1. Bags do not hold shape and will look like crap quickly-I had this with the Slants and the Jumbo Desperados
2. Latches broke and I could not get replacements from Saddlemen with out 4 phone calls and being put on hold for hours, they like to deal with dealers only it seems.
3. They leak like mad and everything had to be in plastic bags
4. They discolored and turned milky white on the tops.
5. The universal brackets are junk that they provided

Spend the extra bucks and get some better bags that will hold up.....I ended up going with the OEM bags for my Aero Shadow and Intruder-after the disaster with Saddlemen. I think they are made my Willie and Max-Revolution series on both bikes.

If I can save one biker the aggravation I have had with them then this rant is worth it.

I went with the stock bags on my 1600 and they are just OK. I want to invest in some locking hard bags and will put these on my wifes Intruder 800.

Ride safe,

Capt Tedd

A few weeks after the bags went on :(. I have to say the Saddlemen luggage is a much better value-
All four fastners have fallen out. White streaks are worse. That is on my other bike a Honda Shadow 750
