| Posted : 29 Aug 2010 - 09:21 Post title : New Bars...Custom | | Well I got sick of waiting for someone to come out with the right bars. The problem is the width of the tank and the height of the stock risers, I got a pars of bars from Flanders, while they were the right height and pull back they just weren't wide enough...now they are
37.5 inches wide , Rizoma grips and all the Triumph bling. I sit more forward now...more like my old Speedy but with more width and no flop. Word to the wise, make sure you put some electrical tape or similar around the bars where you put the cable keepers...they don't stay tight very long and will gall the bars.
I had the cowl raised by and inch and gave my mate Stu the Techmount I was going to originally use...the mount of choice IMHO. Now my Garmin 660 hides under the cowl. I will raise it by another 1/2 inch to get the angle exactly.
Well there ya go, I happy. It's taking some getting used too but I prefer the new position.
sorry about the pics...my Dad has my little camera and I couldn't be stuffed getting out the Nikon

The one thing I will say that I don't like is: The black bolts in the chrome switch housing....
Anyways - more to the point - How's the back after a long tour with the forward reach now? AND - can you see behind you now and not just your elbows?

Yeah I must get around to changing out the stock fixtures for some stainless...it's in the list
I haven't done a long ride yet, 250k with a break for coffee is about it. I'm ready for it though lol rear view is no problem...my arms aren't as bent as they were on the stock bars. They are based on a Flanders Wide Cafe, 12 inch centre with a 2.5 inch rise

They all seem to have them here in the USA, probably more likely over there in aussie land since we actually have the poorest selection of metric. Anyways, i got them and ran em on a dremel with a cloth wheel and metal polish and to this day they still look exactly like chrome and haven't even tarnished at all. Or if no dremel, put the threaded part in a drill and run it while holding a cloth with metal polish to the head. Amazing how it matched the chrome housings so perfectly. Can't believe how cheap triumph are not to include them in the kit.

Its cool though look a bit like western bars but different. Grips are cool how is your vibration through the mirrors i've found my left mirror vibrates a bit and the cars seem blurry. I'm still waiting for my tank,( this one is a loaner tank.)my forans are in the post apparently and my clutch and engine covers are on there way from the UK still. But at least I have a bike to ride...
P.S. i've just gone outside and taken some good photos of my bike but cant post them cause i don't know how to compress them. My riding skills sh*t on my computer skills.

... and how do you like the Rizomas?
I have a pair - sat in the garage!!! I put them on and then thought to myself, "Too much silver!"
Did you have to machine the inner collar too? Here's a picture from my grips:

Westy, I have a mate who has some knuckle bars on his HD and I liked the feel so I tried Flanders, unfortunately he wont do custom bends. Props to JCS for organising the bars...best Triumph dealer in Perth without doubt.
I recall the vibration when I first picked up the 'Bird...I went for some cheapy padded grips almost immediately. I knew that the Rizoma grips, with no padding, were going to be a drama without some intervention. I managed to track down the woman who sells Bar Snakes. It has taken most of the buzz out.. Wongan Hills cant be too far away now. You'll need to get your bike finished soon...
For the pics, open them in Picture Manager and go to edit, resize...then get um up
Birdy, I like the Rizomas, I um'ed and ar'ed about the colour but I'm happy with the outcome. In isolation it may look like a bit of silver overload but when I look at the bike as a whole I think it works. I have the black cowl fitted so that maybe that helps with the balance. The boys at JCS sorted the grip fit no problems. I'm getting my mufflers rebaffled (?), if that's a word lol. 38 mill perforated tube. That will get rid of the percussive tone, then I'm going to have a word with TB

I just asked for the new one to have no badges. It keeps wanna be bikers guessing what sort of bike it is. The amount of times i've been asked whilst out riding "What sort of Harley is that" or Is it a Harley......... Not long now i've been told, just waiting for Dennis Foran to send me some pipes and its all go Thunderbird are go

how did you get it in with those plugs in the bars that the end caps screw onto? They appear to be permanent, at least i saw no way to remove them.

Wildwest, where the Speedmaster risers "plug and play" or did you have to make any mods?

It Fits like is was made for it, At full lock the switch gear miss the tank by millimetres. I was thinking of a set of "six gun" Jesse James risers or Billy Lane Risers. I'm 6ft and that little more reach forward into the wind is what suits me.
