well lads,I have just returned from a week on the road, and 3,200kms of trouble free motorcycling to the Triumph Australia national RAT rally in Hahndorf SA.
that is the equivalant of riding from Dublin to 500 km the other side of Moscow, or from Detroit to L.A. and I rode alone and had a ball.
The Rally was outstanding, and I rode several new Triumphs including the Bobber and new 900cc T100 Bonneville, and the yet to be released all new Street triple 765, and I rode it on "track mode".
I also got a trophy, and a swathe of Triumph goodies in the bike show for the highest mileage Triumph at the Rally, at 101,110 kms its not really high mileage as such.
The head Tech bloke from Triumph Cliff Stoval was there {and what a bloke he is, really humble, but knowledge just flowing and shared very freely}, anyway he told me about a bloke in Western Australia with 385,000 kms on his Thunderbird, and it is totally original, even the Belt. The only mechanical issue he has had is a new clutch at 180,000kms, and that may be due to the fact that he towes a trailer.
we all knew these machines are going to be long lived

Nice one irish - was there any scuttlebutt about the probability of bringing the T bIrd up to modern standards. IE : Traction control and other such refinements which are on every other fucking Triumph ??

OMG, 385.000 km. Thats stunning.

Refitting the TB with things like ESP, TC, Cruise control, or integrated brakes, would require a new ECU, with different programming, and additional sensors. Feedback from ABS could be possible though, but then again, would requiring reprogramming the ABS unit too.
Since the TB is not in high priority at Triumph R&D, I don't think we will see anything like that, in near future, if at all.

Anyway, a BMW have all these gimmicks, the TB is still a riders bike. Not a rolling computer.

@ Irish, Cudoes for the long ride.

385,000 kilometers is approximately 250,000 [1/4 million] miles by our standards here in the states.Well, he's certainly got me beat as that's twice the mileage I have on mine!! He must live on that machine to put that kind of mileage on it.But it proves just how well built the TBird really is!

Like to hear the noise you make when you feel my size 12 up your A..

You can have it with or without ABS.

Actually I didn't know you have ABS (didn't read the signature). My post was directed towards your comment "rolling computer". That being said (and not to hijack the thread), I'm not an ABS fan.

Rich, fair enough, I just could not resist the opportunity to pull your leg. It was written with a twinkle in the eye.
