I guess you could also say it looks like a little cage, but again, you'll see what i mean

we are seeing the same problem, from proximal and distal perspectives.

| Posted : 03 Aug 2010 - 02:09 Post title : Re: Loose Mirror (Re: teebird) | | From a dorsal and ventral perspective....a tapered, sintered, lube impregnated, bronze bushing captured in the plastic housing. The mirror stem has a tapered part to match. Between these is a corrugated strip of spring steel, maybe 1 cm wide, wound into an exact cylinder. Brilliant! The lengthy bolt draws the stem into the perfect position. And if it needs a bit of careful adjustment it will move on the bushing/corrugation. But, if it gets jacked around by vandals, bushes best friends or various mishap, whoops, (and here is the brilliant part,) It's Broken.
I "Broke" mine changing the risers. What happens is the spring steel rides up in the busing if acceleration forces overcome the bushing friction. Riding up the taper will cause the spring steel to form an overlap and be reduced. Not tight. Now, if we're so smart, why not just make a corrugated steel cylinder and push in a taper. that would solve it. But, mates, we're smart, not #&*#Brilliant.
