how do you define substantial? the real test will be hearing these pipes in person and being able to compare them |

Substantial is what YOU feel is substantial. Thats just my way of saying enough to make ME happy. For you it's what makes YOU happy. As to hearing them, yes, but unlike you and many others my 1st priority is performance gains. It they were enough to put a big smile on my face i wouldn't care if they were as quiet as stock. (yes, i realize thats no possible, it was for the sake of argument) I do prefer a bit louder than stock, but thats just not a big deal for me.

After looking at and hearing all the options that are out there right now I went with the long TORs. It seems to me that until a tuner comes out that can change on the fly none of the systems are really going to out do the other and when that does happen it will also improve the TORs numbers. So for me it boils down to sound and looks and $$$ I don't care for the short pipes on our style of bike and some are just to loud. With my discount from the dealer and getting the tune done for free I went ahead and ordered the long TORs.
Big Twin also has a Dyno and for a small fee, I can run my bike on it, so if winter willhold off for awhile I'll take it down and give it a run.

Nothing wrong with the TORS, and since you don't want LOUD like me, they're just fine. You may get more power from less restrictive pipes once dyno tuned with a PC or a tuneboy map if he happens to make a better one for the TORs than triumph's. But you'll pay for it with the extra noise. I can live with louder only if it;'s not too much more and has a super smooth tone. Otherwise the TORs are fine and i think will give great power with the proper tune and some air mods eventually. By the way, i agree about the long vs short. Theres a Tbird literally 2 blocks away from where i work and he has the shorts. I stood there one day looking at it for about 5 minutes trying to fully get a feel for how it looks with them. I came to the decision that theres something about the shorties that completely changes the bike's look. It's a very different looking bike with the shorts, and to my eye it ruins the lines and takes away the overall look that i love about it. Thats to ME.....everyone's eye is different. (just so you shortie owners don't jump all over me)

I find it impossible to hear volume in a clip tho. But if they are louder thats one more reason i'm glad to have the longs. Funny thing is, triumph USA told me they are the same. But then i've found them to be off the mark more than on to be nice.

Which makes sense (for those who have to pay for the server space) at the end of the day, I mean - you can't be having HD video and Dolby 5.1 clips as the server would be filled within a day. That's why I feel they drop the video quality and the sound down to save space. Normal I suppose. BUT a shame when we specifically want to hear something in detail!
Maybe there is a server somewhere where I could up load hi quality sound clips and video clips I'll get back to you on this one.

If like most of us do the file comes out of a digital camera, few if any of those record very good quality sound. You'd have to use a good quality dedicated audio recorder, preferably stereo because thats how we hear. Mono will not sound realistic same as when you cover one eye and notice how things have no depth of field any longer. the same happens sonically with one ear.
So really, no file is going to sound anything like being there unless you use a good quality stereo recorder. They have small hand held ones but few people have them other than possibly a few musicians who use them to record gigs. Possibly some very high quality cameras may decent mics in dual mic (stereo) format, but i doubt most of us use better than little point and shoots.

(Re: Birdy68) | | I adjusted the volume of my speakers when the bike was at idle to where it sounded as close to real as possible, then let the rest of the video play. Also, I had them pre-load the TOR tune, so all I have to do is put the new pipes on and I'll be done, and yes DAZ it runs better with the stock pipes and TOR tune than before. The engine seems to run smoother and had better response when accelerating in the upper gears at highway speeds. Even when the technician took the bike for a test run said the bike runs nice.
