I had a Mustang on my Honda which I liked, but was so pricey. I am wondering who here is running a Mustang Daytripper on the Tbird. Also am considering just having the stock seat modified by someone. Please provide thoughts. Thanks.

(Re: Snyperx) | | Hi, I just had my stock Longhaul seat recovered with added gel inserts and it's ssssooooooooo much better than before and at a couple of hundred quid including the backrest pad and some custom embroidery touches, I'd say it was cheaper than a Mustang or similar aftermarket seat. It looks nice too IMO. To be fair, I've not used any of the aftermarket options. I don't suppose this helps much but it's another option worth considering I guess.

Firstly, it may be comfortable if you are of race horse jockey proportions. It is very narrow and for most guys, especially as we get a little older we are no longer capable of playing horse jockey. I believe that seat is only 11" at its widest.. Secondly, because it is so narrow it looks like crap aesthetically. Once mounted you can see wide gaps between the perimeter of the seat and the plastic side covers thus exposing wires and cables. It just looks like shite. If you don't feel like you wanna spend the dough for a real Mustang, then have Spencer modify your stock seat. For about $100 with shipping he'll install military grade supracore. That will double your comfort time in the saddle but it still won't be as comfy for a long haul as a real Mustang seat will.

(Re: satch1961) | | very first long ride 2000 klm on the mustang and aside from the normal fuel stops i never had one issue at all was very supportive and comfy. I had a corbin on my speedmaster and i liked it as well but i don't like their back rests (useless) and they tend to side you back and down whereas the mustang sits you up a little and forward, for me at 5 ft 8" tall it was perfect. Can't skimp on a seat man, difference between enjoying the bike and not.

I have a custom seat that is based on the long haul seat pan (that I would be willing to sell).
the insert bit for the rider back rest has been removed so the rider sits back a little more with better support. the rider part has been inserted with 1-1/2 inches of gel with 1/2 inch of memory foam over it and the pillion area has 3/4 inch gel with 1/2 memory foam over it. the seat is covered in black leather (actually deer hide).
PM me if you are interested, I should be able to find a picture of it on a T-bird.

(Re: satch1961) | | satch1961 - just want to confirm there's a big difference between the generic single piece Mustang Daytripper and fastback (made originally for various HD's even though they now brand them for the t-bird I think) and the two piece seat Mustang produces specifically for the T-bird. Local guy around here (Charlie) had the t-bird specific one and it was pretty nice.
Sorry that daytripper did not work out - and thanks for the heads up!

The day tripper may be marketed as a fit for the third and it does fit but it is just not made for the bird. As I mentioned it is just too small. As for the mustang you can get the solo seat, or the one piece dual seat or the two separate pieces - one for rider and one for passenger. Too me comfort on a bike is not an area to ignore. Shitty comfort leads to accidents. It will cost you 500 for the individual pieces combined and I think 600 for the dual one piece. If you ride solo like me all you need is the rider seat for 300. Also know that the triumph so called long haul seat is just more shitty foam added to the stock seat without stabilizers. The mustang adds stabilizers that support your body. I can go all day on the mustang

You can get a two piece Mustang seat without the backrest on ebay for around $460. You can get these new from several dealers out there. I have the two piece setup and I love the seat. Very comfortable. Might upgrade to the backrest version sometime but for now I'm getting along just fine without it.

Well that is my thing. Do I go without the backrest to save money. I can get the plain two piece from Fast Eddy's for like $458 shipped. My issue if whether I will be fine without the backrest. I really don't want to spend money again to get the backrest option. I do like the look of the two piece non-backrest version. I could also send in my stock two piece and have it modded for like $200, but I run the risk of not having be the comfort and support I need.

Appreciate the offer. I had the backrest version on my Honda. I liked it, but hated the cost at $650. Trying to see if I can go without the backrest and still have the comfort I want.
