From my Harley experience, the longer pipes have a tendency to make better low
end torque, whilst the shorter pipes are better at higher revs.

Has this been your experience? Which do you find better for this particular bike?

Are there other alternatives that won't void the warranty? ( Yes, I have a warranty )

Does the dealer need to be the one to install, and what does the labor generally run?

TIA, and eagerly awaiting your replies.

I'm not sure of the power differences between the long and short TORS . I have the longs because I like the look. The install is pretty simple but the ECU needs to be remapped by either Tune ECU or the dealer. One side note between the two is when servicing the rear wheel the long TORS need to be removed and the shorts can stay in place.

Short tors look cool imo! Either way, I wouldn't be concerned about small torque differences between exhausts unless you plan a performance jump (1700 BB kit, bypass, dyno, etc.).

No, but I like the low end stuff. Use the bike to commute. Can't wind it up too much.

I'm a noob. Who is Dave?

And I spend a lot of time in traffic. So, I don't get the opportunity to open it up as much.

these guys make good pipes for the T/Bird too Link Not sure how the waranty laws are in the U.S but in Aus it has no affect on the warranty, though when I bought my Storm I had the dealer install them and re tune to suit. I have the Hog slayers, but British customs have since released the predators that sound wicked too.

Agreed on the sound of the predators. They also look very nice.

In the States, they are expensive, and then the tune on top of that...

TORs are half the price, and come with a map now. Still, it's tempting..

I have the D&D pipes on mine that I bought used from a forum member a few years ago. I got them about the same time I was having a rear tire put on at the Triumph dealer so I had them install them and put in the 20306 tune. I did have a little popping on deceleration but plugged the SAI pipe using the instructions on this forum. I've had other Thunderbird riders say they like the sound better than the short tors. At low speeds or just putting around, they sound mellow but twist the throttle and they really bark.

They still have a slight slant to them which I like better than the straight back look.

I put TORS on my Commander, don't expect a lot of noise. I couldn't tell the difference between stock and the TORS unless I get on it hard. They were so quiet the dealer checked the #s to make sure they didn't send another stock set to me. On my '10 1600 the the stock mufflers with 2 baffles taken out were just as loud.

When you installed them, did it run any better? Right now, mine is running good. IF there's not that much of a difference, I might just go ahead and keep the stockers.

For me yes, just for excrements and laughter I switched back to the stockers and it felt like it was towing an anchor.

Well then, I guess it does make a difference. Noise I don't need. Nice sound is ok. You can have a bike that sounds good without being too loud.

But if it runs better, then I guess it's a good idea.

The Cat replacement elbows work great with the stock pipes. Nice throaty rumble without being too loud. Runs great, better mpg, stock tune.

I didn't notice any difference. But to be fair It was during the break in period under 500 miles that they were installed so I had never really rode it hard until over 1,000 miles. I would have to put the stockers back on to do a real comparison like Linkdog did.

No installation video on that.
Cat removal covered in shop manual. Installation instructions included.

I have a 2011 1600. When bought, it had a K&N air filter, BC Hogslayers, and TORS tune. I reinstalled the stock pipes (primarily for looks) and installed cat bypass elbows and am now running the stock tune. There may be a subtle performance reduction, but to be honest, I really didn't feel much difference with this combination. The stock pipes without the elbows are fairly mild until you get on it and then they have a nice bark. Overall, they're just a little quieter than the Hogslayers.

You don't by chance have a video of it, do you? I'd love to hear how it sounds.

Are they the same elbows that are being sold above?

I did shoot a few videos as I was making some changes. Unfortunately, I did not make a video of the Hogslayers. What I have is one of the stock exhaust with cat, stock exhaust with a Meerkat crossover and one with stock exhaust and elbows. However, these videos were shot with my IPhone and the audio just doesn't really capture the real sound.

The elbows that I am using were custom fabricated. I had them made before Bob was offering his. If his would have been available at the time, I would have bought his.

Since I don't know how to post videos, I will send them to you if you PM me your email address.

OK Curtis. I've had enough positive feedback from these elbows that I can offer you this:

Buy a set here, Link and if you don't like them after 1 week, send them back and I'll refund your money.

Here's another testimony:
