I read somewhere awhile back that they were 3" longer, but would like to confirm that as well.

Depending on how you route your cables, the extended set will probably work. Difference isn't as great as you might expect, but it's enough. Best guess is about 6 inches.
Real problem is wiring and brake like. Triumph put nearly a foot of extra wiring under the tank, was just enough for my chimp hangers. The extended brake line wasn't nearly long enough tho, ended up brazing new fittings with an aftermarket hose.
Many posts here on the subject of risers and bars with as many various solutions.

I have been considering adding more than just risers and read your thread about the Flanders RG bars that you added. The look, rise and pullback seem like it would be really good for me. So just to clarify, you did buy and use the "triumph extended cable kit" with this change, but still had to modify the brake line fittings because the hose was too short, correct? Also, your throttle cables are on the back side of the yoke even with the extended cable kit, correct?

Correct on all counts. Extended brake line (non-ABS) was short by 2".
All routed behind triple clamps, yes. You can see new brake line and cable route in this pic:

ABS brake line has a different yoke where the lines come together at triple clamp. Don't know if overall length is any different.

They will work fine. Reroute them inside the triple trees and you gain some length. I have 10" apes with the stock risers and I still use my stock throttle and clutch cables. The brake line needs to be extended, but I used the Arlen Ness set-up from when I put 17" apes on my cross country.
