(Re: Kando) | | I have the rocket 3 throttlemeister standard weights on my bird.i haven't weighed them but they are quiet a bit heaver than the standard weights.you can also get the throttlemeister in two sizes i got the standard only because i couldn't find bolts longer than 60mm stainless countersunk Phillips head. I love it so simple and smooth to operate and look good too.I do think it has cut down on the vibes at high speed but there is still a little bit left.

Does the Rocket3 BrakeAway unit fit the TBird?
What do you guys think of the BrakeAway system?

| Posted : 01 Jul 2010 - 12:18 Post title : Re: Cruise control / assist again! (Re: phantom98) | | I've seen the BrakeAway system in person (on a RoadStar) as well as the ThrottleMeister and can offer these comments:
1) BrakeAway I think is more expensive 2) It is a well engineered piece of kit that works exceedingly well and easy to use. 3) Is probably a safer solution in that if you apply the brake, the lock disengages. TM does not. 4) It is a bit of concentrated work to install this - not as easy as the TM by a long shot. 5) The TM is well made with simple efficiency to operate. 6) The TM is a lot tidier solution. The BA has lots of extra parts that could get damaged in a fall or go wrong.
Between the two, I will be going with the TM solution, based on cost, simplicity and effectiveness.

Sorry but I have never had any luck with Kuryaken products and, when I treid to speak with their guy in the booth at Bike Week, he basically just blew me off. I got him aside so I wouldn't say anything bad about the products in their booth and just tried to find out their policy on replacing peeling chrome. He told me that didn't happen and walked away from me. That's my last product from that supplier.

I have a crappy right elbow that really starts to hurt after 1/2 hour of riding. Relieves it a lot if I can take my hand off the throttle.
Also, really hard to do the "robot" while listening to Kraftwerk, but still have to have one hand on the handlebars.

I am wary of anything that would lock or partially lock the throttle, from a safety point of view too many variables out there and sometimes a second makes a difference.

WOW, They must have some TOP NOTCH engineers! They can make one for just about every Triumph bike but not the TB. WTF???? I got the same reply from them. I think since it's a new bike and not a lot out there they just don't want to be bothered.

It is great! the throttle boss looks like is the same thing, I just returned from a 5000 KM trip through the mountains where bears, deer and falling rocks happened instant throttle response is important to me, I don't use locks, just way to much control taken away... for me. I also get very accurate throttle control making it easy to maintain a constant speed. It is super comfortable.

I very much doubt that anyone with more than half a brain would dare use a throttle lock in any circumstance such as you describe. I had a HD-style screw in type throttle lock on my old bike that I would only ever engage on the open road like the equivalent of USA Interstates. And even when on those, if you are approaching another vehicle you generally have your hand on the throttle ready to twist off or on if the need arises. And I don't know about how anyone else rides their bike, but if I am in need of taking the gas off, I don't for a millisecond let go of the throttle and rely on the spring-back action to decelerate for me. No, I have a firm grip and I twist it back!!! Hence, I think any perceived "loss of control" from throttle locks is patently not there in my case.
The ONLY situation I can see a throttle lock being a concern is if, in some way, I fall asleep or unconscious or have a heart attack, that the bike keeps going at the speed I have it dialed in at... But I figure if that happens then I'm screwed either way. :)
