I really don't like the stock grips have, always replaced all my motorcycle grips with biltwell products, big fan of mostly everything they've marketed.

I'm 99% sure these bars are 1" and I'm 100% sure they are longer than any other grips I've seen. I think they're something like 4 3/4" and the biltwells are like 4 1/4" This is all from memory from sunday when I replaced my harley grips which the length of was identical to the biltwell. Anyhoot anyone replace there grips? and why avons if so? they don't look too awesome for the price.

I (think) one of the issues are the end weights on our bars, they are indeed 1" bars, length should not be as big a problem so long as there is enough cable to move controls down if need be. I am not a fan of the oem grips either, very cheap but I also do not like the big puffy avons etc out there.

What did you replace your grips with, and so these bar ends are necessary?

I have not yet, and I have read that those that have replaced the grips without the ends seem to be ok, some people place the weights inside of the bars, there are some pages in here on that.

I absolutely love these, Have them on my Softail now, had their Kung Fu grips on a few Ironheads and an xs650 and a KZ650 really dampened vibrations on the ol' sportsters.

For under $20 you should give them a shot. You'll probably have to cut the ends off of these new grips, just so you can slide 'em over the stock bar end weights. Then you don't have to do anything to inside the bar, etc., and the 4-1/4" length should be fine. I think the bar end weights ad almost a full inch.

For the throttle side, you'll have to be careful in removing the stock "cover" from the throttle sleeve. The reason most folks go with the Kuryakyns, Avons, etc., is that they have the integral sleeve with the ends to receive the cable barrels (open and close cables).

I did away with my stockers early on. Then the Kuryakyn ISO black throttle side broke at the cable holder. So now I have Arlen Ness grips on my Storm, without the bar end weights.

I would like to get those Arlen ness ones as well, any hickups for installing those Jamie? how do you find the buzz if any without the end weights?

I've had them for just about 3 years now. Only recently started noting some buzz after 2hrs in the saddle, but since most of the guys I ride with need or want a break every hour or so, it hasn't bothered me. I'm nearing the end of my front tire life, so there is some cupping starting up. So it could be that, or I might need to do a 12 min adaptation or finally dive into some TuneECU work.

They aren't as soft/comfy as the Kuryakyn ISO blacks I had, or probably any of the Avon comfort grips. But I liked the contrast cut design that fits well with the Storm, plus my Joker contrast cut gas cap, exhaust fins from Fast Eddy, etc. I've got a few other things I'm planning to do this winter, to pull that contrast-cut theme together (they have matching footpegs, etc....but need some bracket mods to fit our bikes).

Bottom line is that any of the aftermarket grip sources that make a set for the Star Cruiser line (I think the 1300 and up models) will fit the Tbird 1600, 1700 and Storm. Just not sure about the LT or the Commander (presume same bar size and distance to the switch housing, etc.).

I like em. But softer would be nice.

my stock grips {2012} were too slippery, so I got a set of R3 grips that have a tacky feel to them for about 20 bucks. same size as a T bird.

they aren't soft but they feel great

I would wager i'm probably the only bird owner with the originals from back in the day....what used to be called "triumph grips" because thats what came on em back in the meridan days. Always loved those so i put them on the bird. Actual name is "gran turismo" grips and can still be bought on ebay. Wasn't easy on the throttle side. LOTS of modding to make em work but i love em. Had to cut the ends off too so i could use the stock bar end caps.

Biltwell is 6 miles from my house. Give me a model Number and I will go by and ask them if it will work.

Here's the Grips I ordered on my softail, I absolutly love em.
Installed sunday have been riding the harley more... can't wait for the new ones to come in so I can slap them on the new girl.

So the previous owner kinda fudged up the heads of the allen bolts on my bar ends.....
What size should it be?
Is this bike british standard or metric? so confusing...
