Hi,
I pick up my 1700 Tbird soon when I get back fom my holidays. I have asked the dealer to fit a few extras namely;
T Bars
Chrome Switch Gear
Tors

Now I have change my mind a couple of time between the long and short pipes and have come down eventually on the short ones. this leads to my question for the forum. I am thinking of adding chrome swing arm cover to go with the short pipes.

Q "Does the chrome swing arm cover just cover the outer facing edge of the swing arm?
Q "Can the inside edge of the swingarm still be seen i.e. seen in its original balck paint?
Q "Does the chrome kit cover the front of the swing arm where it meets with the frame"

Sorry for the questions but it is not very clear from the Triumph site or any of the web pictures. If anyone has any pictures they could post or help with the above questions I would be most grateful.

John

Gday John

If going with shorties, the covers really do help a bit the looks.
To answer ya,

1. Yes, it covers all 3 outer facing edges - not rear as unnecessary
2. No
3. It covers it to the extent that all visible areas are closed up nicely.

You wont be disappointed i dont think :-)

Hi John,

I don't know if my answers to your questions are 100% correct but from what I have seen:
Q1 - A: Yes. They only cover over the existing swing arm.
possibly leading to dirt, grim and corrosion build up if you're not careful!

Q2 - A: I think so. When I looked through the rear wheel I could see that the chrome was a 'bolt on' feature.

Q3 - A: ? Can't answer that one I'm afraid.

For your information - I too had once ordered the Chrome Swing Arm Cover - but I canceled my order.
"Why?" I hear you ask. Well because:
1) I wanted to see some contrast.
My 'Bird is the faster Black one - I have Chrome Wheels and the Chrome Pulley fitted - so Chrome Swing Arm Covers would have been too much of an over kill!

2) I didn't want to keep having to inspect behind them to check that corrosion wasn't making any advancements.

IMHO - If you're getting the Short TORs then the Chrom Pully should be on the list
But - each and everyone to their own.

No Paul,

But you'll find that the right hand side is a VERY VERY tight fit.

In fact, after almost scratching mine, I resorted to putting some cloth between the exhaust and the swingarm cover to stop it scratching.

The left side is no where near as tight - I didn't use the bottom bolt attachment on the left side - couldn't be bothered fiddling around underneath the muffler.

Hey thanks everyone for your helpful advice. I think i will wait until i have lived with the bike for a few weeks before deciding on whether to fit the chrome swing arm cover. I must say the pics above of the chrome pulley look fantastic.

mine bike comes with a chrome rad surround fitted I think that will have to go I would rather not highlight the radiator, so will probably list it on the forum for sale early August.

Jimbo is correct you dont have to, but life is allot easier if you do and they only take 5 mins to remove anyway :-)

No.
It's a strange gray colour. Defiantly NOT chrome.
I should be cleaning my 'Bird this evening after yesterdays Triumph Grill Event - so I'll try to get some more pictures for you once I'm finished and having a beer or three in the garage with the 'Bird.

It is a special coating formulated to give the pulley a longer life. The story is on a thread in this forum somewhere. The teeth would have been 'stopped off' before the plating.

Well i have just come back from the Triumph dealer in Guildford, Ouch !!! I went in just to check a few details on my Tbird17 and ensure that they had my order correct. I'm buying a pre owned bike (10 months old 1500 miles) retro fit BB and had added the short TORS except i got rather carried away like a kid in a sweet shop and the list now includes;
Short TORS
High flow air filter
Chrome T bars & Chrome Switch gear
Curved rack in place of pillion pad
QR Cissy bar and rack for the days I take my girlfriend out
Drilled stem mirrors
(hell did I really pay that much for mirrors, actually I only wanted the right hand one but they would only sell in pairs :)
Mastercyclinder cover
then i lost it completely and added the chrome fork legs arghhh!!

Now I do like the look of the chrome pully so Birdy 68 if you're reading this could you post another couple of pics of the chroe pulley so i can get a good idea of what it is like.

Does anyone have the chrome levers fitted they would be willing to post pictures of? having ordered the T bars and chrome switches i have held back from buying chrome levers until i see how well or not the alloy levers go with the chrome. Dealer had no chrome leavers in stock for me to look at so any pictures would be a great help.

I know that feeling!

Yup I have the:
- Chrome Levers (a MUST imho, if you have the Chrome Switch Gear Housings)

Having ordered the Chrome Forks - have you also the Chrome Wheels?

OK Pictures...

Pulley with my Chrome Wheels!

WARNING!
When ordering the switch housing - don't forget to order this little bugger:
It's the Chrome thingy that fixes the oil res. Forgot the name, but you'll se it in the accessories.

Levers with my Single Lamp - back then!

Birdy, many thanks and she looks fab! yes I have ordered the swicth housing thing-a-me-jig and I have resisted ordering chrome wheels, though i must say yours do look pretty cool. i guess you have have shares in Solvol Autosol or whatever you use for polishing.

So what mirros are they you have i see in the pictures?

I have decided not to order passenger boards or change rider footpegs i'm going to wait until I pick up the bike and have thrashed her a while before ordering some of the Kuryakin stuff which seems okay and not too tacky.

Without wishing to start another thread (especially in the wrong place) once I have the ol' girl I'm keen to release a few extra bee h pee. I note in the UK, and not far from me, Bob Farnham has dome some impressive Triumph tuning so I will put in a call and see where it leads. I'm not after a mad high end tune but I'm sure a combintion of pipes/air flow/loosing the CAT should free up a bit quite cheaply.

Thanks again for the pictures and it looks like you have persuaded me to add the chrome levers

Well I started with the origional - naturally.
From there I installed the Rizoma Senso But fact is, they are just so small and you don't see past your elbow! Here's a comparision picture for you:

So then I went for the Triumph OEM 'Drilled Stem Tear-Drop' mirrors - and I'm very happy with them

Ah well therein lay my cunning plan! I took her, my girlfriend that is, ffor a test ride on a Hardly Davidson Street Glide first of all. the suspension was apalling and within a few hundred yards had fully, and i might add painfully ,bottomed out and my woman is not by any stretch of the imagination big. So we gave up on the HD. When she had a test ride on the Trumpet it was 5* luxury in comparsion. Anyway she only needs something to stop her falling off the back. Money spent on a full seat is far better spent releasing a few more horses from the lump

Hey Birdy 68 I noticed in the pictures you have posted that you have some shots with the T bars fitted and then shots without T bars. have you removed the T bars? if so why? I would be interested to hear your views on them.

No - the TT-Bars are currently installed.
The other photos were taken earlier - before the TT-Bars and twin head lamps were installed!

No worries - I'm VERY happy with the looks and feel of the TT-Bars - despite having a little more vibrations in the hands!
But I can not say if this is because of the bars or the BB-Kit installation! I had both fitted at the same time.

I guess you have to remove the cover to take the wheel off or adjust the belt tension. This puts me off so I dont think I will bother.

Sounds like we have a similar set-up going on....
Have all items on the list.. !!.. Chrome levers are nicely done and after 8/9 months no pitting etc (would have liked adjustable span ones though).... and also just fitted the National Cycles Switchbalde Deflector flyscreen... very happy with that as well.!!

Takes about 3/4 mins a side to remove the covers so no real bother.... and the finished look is definately worth it...

So you dont need to remove the exhaust as per the instructions then or is this only possible if you dont fit them using all of the bolts? I was told you can fit them without removing the exhaust if you are careful. I might even consider the Black ones from a storm as I am fitting a black storm pulley.
