Dropped in to my mechanic yesterday for a routine service due to being still under warranty. 35,000 km and the valves needed doing, too tight and he couldnt get the feeler gauge in so had to drop the cams.... which is about as major surgery as i could be imagining he checked them at 20,000 and they were fine.
and the great news is, that the inside of the motor looks as good as it did the day it left the factory, even the original spark plugs still look like they are brand new he said "whatever way you are riding it, keep on doing it"
I discovered a few new things throughout the day too, and you guys perhaps already know all this, but for me its new info. The computer resets itself every nine minutes, so if I needed to put low octane fuel in for some reason, even E10 it would run rough for exactly nine minutes then get better, then nine minutes later better again etc.
Another thing he told me was to every now and then from cold, and he stressed it has to be from cold start without any throttle to leave it run until the fan kicks in then for exactly twelve minutes more, then switch it off. this resets the computer to run at its optimum I love chatting to mechanics
all in all I had a great day, I met Paffy at the bike shop, I saw Woodys bike ready to be picked up (and sent Smitty the photos, so he could stir him up on fb}
and they leant me an xvs 650 to get me out of their hair for a few hours, but it didnt really work as i kept popping back in
Then I got a text from Olivers motorcycles in Brisbane telling me to come to the launch of the new Tiger 800 range
I was very Tempted
gotta love Trumpet

Good work Diarmuid I hope the bill wasn't too nasty. I will be seeing my girl very soon I can't wait to get reacquainted.

This is a well known thing here that we call the 12 minute tune. I can tell you however it's not only not necassary as a normal routine, but i have found it counter productive at times. Don't take everything your mech tells you as gospel. Trust me, more incredible stupid things have come out of triumph mechanics mouth as often posted here than good. My personal experience with them has proven that. The 12 minute tune is something you might try where there is an issue. OItherwise i'd suggest leaving it be.

It's called the " 12 MINUTE ADAPTION PROCEDURE"and is shown in the SM.And yes,it's a good idea to perform it periodically because it keeps the machine running up to snuff as it clears and recalibrates the ECM and sensors. Once I discovered this,I now perform it atleast,4 times a year,once for each season,spring summer,fall and winter, and also when ever I do a sensor R+R or tune up. Dave!!!
