| Posted : 24 Nov 2014 - 01:52 Post title : a few reflections from older than dirt | | Now 72 years young after this Wednesday and riding a 2010 Triumph Thunderbird, all 812 pounds wet of it. Wanted to share a few comments and observations over a lifetime of driving and riding motorcycles. As you might guess, I am grateful to be agile and strong enough to continue riding safely. I find that being 72 now is actually fun, and a hell of a lot better than the alternative. I post a few observations and mysteries of life.
1. What fool moved the dimmer switch from the floor to the steering column on cars?
2. Why isn't gasoline still 18.9 cents for regular and 20.9 cents USD for high test at the Pure Oil Company? Don't companies know it is hard for those in the government printing all that paper that is no longer backed up by gold. You know, those old silver certificates?
3. Why does more hair grow now in my ears and on my chest, rather than on my head?
4. What idiot put ethanol in gasoline? My bike runs better on non-ethanol fuel by a mile, actually, quite a few more miles per tank.
5. I now know that experience is that which enables you to recognize a mistake the second time you make it.
6. Money, or rather the love of money is not what it is cracked up to be. Success might be better defined as having friends and others around you who love you and you them, and the good health to enjoy it and them.
7. Any day you get to ride your motorcycle is a good day.
8. Looks like my father was right, don't ride a motorcycle any faster than you want to fall off. Smart man, my dad.
9. Life is a trip, and not a destination. Enjoy the ride and take time to smell the roses.
10. I can now say with reasonable certainty that now, when I take my wife a dozen roses (after mortgaging the house), she will ask me what I have done NOW. Of course, the last time was when I came home with a brand new Triumph Thunderbird SE A1. As you age, it becomes much easier to get forgiveness than permission.

Age does make one, wiser.I don't know just how many years you've been riding two wheeler or how many miles you've traveled [I'm 53 consecutive years mounted on two wheels, traveling over 1,000,000 miles] but have to say that it has been shear pleasure riding all those miles, as well as an escape,[riding clears my head when trying to solve a problem with somethin I'm workin on] and especially now, wanting,or should I say,"HOPING" to be able to do it for another 53 years! [or atleast as long as I can] I know, wish full thinking! But we can dream, can't we?? And then you meet a lot of interesting people in your travels. After all,we're here on the Tbird 1600 site, ain't we?? And being here has been an adventure all by itself! Dave!!!

Smart ass!! The 80 was referring to my mileage, not my age. At times I may feel like 80,but I still have quite a ways to go. And besides, and as YOU should know,"ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG" And,like YOU, I'm no good either and will live to be a 100.And just think,I can be pestering you guys for another 30 years and the pleasure will be ALL YOURS!!!! I can hardly wait!! NOT SO OLD, Dave!!!
