OK guys, now that there are various pipes on the market for the Thunderbird, in your opinion, what's
the best sounding pipes?
I know, this is gonna open up a can of words.

Thanks

The trouble with this sort of question is that it is 'joe public' that gets to benefit most from our pipe mods. I have the short TORS and get lots of comments (all good). Even the local HD custom shop dude person admitted it sounded great coming up the road. But until I let someone else do me a ride past on my bird then I will know for sure . Some of the posted video's of other pipes have sounded really nice, although they must sound better in real life.

few if any have heard more than one so far....the one they bought. The pipes haven't been out that long so you probably won't find anyone thats heard more than one or 2. But like what was already said, tastes vary.

However, that said, like the fact blue/white is the fastest color, TOR longs are without a doubt by far the best sounding pipes.

I dunno Daz. I think that the British Custom Hog Slayers on a black bird are far and away the best bird/pipe combo! The sound of the the Slayers on wot is truly inspired. Check out Thatch's youtube video to get a listen. Link Here's mine...

I rest my case!

Ahhh, but i beg to differ sir ! Notice the price on the black bird is cheaper. This is for obvious reasons....the lack of class and speed compared to the much finer blue. As to the BCs....well look at the pic....can't you see they have been selling only factory seconds....they're horribly bent right in the middle !

It's all in what you want. What level of performance are you after? Are you a chrome or stainless guy? or perhaps you want black? What look do you want? 'Cadillac Classy' or 'Street Thug'?

For what I wanted, look, performance, material and tone the BC Hog Slayers were and are by far the best. For someone else with a different goal, a different pipe might be better.

one of the almighty niggles i have with the bonnie styling is that wierd and annoying kink where the exhaust pipe meets the can. here i gotta agree with daz as the bc pipe emulates that styling and applys it to the bird. might have a wonderful tone but that kink.... arghhhhhh

so far its the long tors for styling (although the black tb does look best)

however i was passing earl shilton a while back ( t140 spares) and im sure it was windy corner where i saw a r3 with an under frame zard exhaust that had a very short rectangular exit before the back wheel, very nearly bought it. be different and try them

Well I disagree (but then I would). I won't repost pics of my bike but I think she looks pretty dead sexy and the way that the BC pipes hug the bike give the bike a much angrier, sporty character. I think the stockers (and therefore the long TORs) give a sort of lazy boat like appearance to the bike.

Again, as I stated previously, it all depends on what you want. Nothing wrong with the 'classy' look of the stock pipes but I'll take my pipes that zig any day them.

Have all the bugs (download) been straightened out with the BC pipes?
Thanks

Nice eye, Kando! That is where the front bolt for the sissy bar spool and bolt should be. It fell out while riding a while back and I've had a hell of a time having it replaced. I actually ordered it special as it is a strange bolt (M10 buttonhead, 60 mm, 1.25 mm thread). I finally did get a replacement but it was a 1.5 mm thread. Now I have to find it all over again. Ugh. So be warned: if you take your sissy bar off, don't leave the front bolt loose!!

I have had a hard time getting the four bolts adjusted correctly, so the right rear is looser than the front so the Sissybar can fit.

The British Customs pipes are hard to beat for the price. Easy to install, eliminate the cat and look and sound great.

I thought I would copy my post on the Foran exhaust here, in response to the opinions on exhausts.................

OK...Its been a while since anyone has posted on the exhaust threads, in particular about the controversial (cosmetically speaking) Foran set. I thought I should give some feedback to the Forum and its people that have helped me love my Tbird more...so here goes...

Well, I have finally taken the plunge and gone the Foran way. Firstly, I have to agree with Snakecharmer.....these are definitely aural sex for your ears. Not only do I love the beefy roar they make, but so do people I ride with. I loved my long Tors, and had no intentions of changing them until I came across a Tbird on the road with a set of Forans. Since then I was torn between staying with the TORS or taking the (somewhat expensive but worthwhile) plunge. These pipes have good deep tone, a beefy character, and add a presence the bike didn't have before. You can make them purr along at speed or even cruising the streets....or you can unleash them under acceleration...either way they sound awesome. They also have more of a thump at idle which I like too.

For those who have been less than impressed with the look of the pipes, I totally understand. Taste is an interesting thing...it can be as individual as you like, as long as the beholder is the happy and content one. For me, I didn't like or dislike the Forans. They didn't offend my taste, but they didn't beg me to buy them either. It wasn't til I heard them on the road, that I was hooked. One day while on a job I was lucky enough to be passing by Dennis Foran's exhaust emporium on the central coast of NSW , and I decided to call in to satisfy my curiosity. Dennis is a good bloke and a biker and bike lover at heart. He appreciates the bike/rider relationship thing that happens and wants you (the customer) to be happy with your purchase. So we talked about my indifference to the design of his pipes, but my love of the sound. He says to me... 'lets make something you want'. So we did. I almost went with his offer of making a set of stainless steel pipes that would look just like the Long Tors, but in the end I decided with a modified version of his design. To quote Dennis' explanation of the design I had described ..."we'll rotate the pipes inward on the bracket so they hug the bike, have less of a droop, lengthen them a tad and then we'll put on that outward facing curved slash you want instead of the one I have." Perfect! I said. So thats what we did.

There was only one small hitch. I was unable to leave my bike with him when he made them (he is a long way from home) and we had a small glitch with the heat shields matching exactly when I put them on. I had to return to see him so he could fix the minor adjustment. Thats what happens with new designs with no R&D. I was the volunteer guinea pig. In the end I have a set of pipes that I absolutely love. It was worth the wait and the folding ones. I'm happy to say that Gonzo is the proud owner of the Long Tors that I was hesitant to change from, and he seems as happy as I do.

One of these days I will learn to post a picture and a sound clip on this Forum.

Regards
Lou
