Pretty much 38 psi back and front, just gone to 40 in the rear as the centre has more tread than the areas just off centre.

Have tried pressures from what Triumph recommend up to 40 front & 42 rear (44 if he boss is on the back) & have found that gives me the best wear characteristics for our roads. ( plus its a firkin heavy bike ) The Avon ( rear ) I had I was running about 40 & it was feathering on the sides ( boss on the back ) so I googled it & the problem was under inflation so I whacked it up to 44 & it wore much better. I'd like to try the Avon again with the 44 & see how it goes. The distance from where I live to the twisty bits is from 300 to 500km, which explains the limited tyre life, Dave, not the pressure as you suggest.

Cheers, Guido.

Dave,

I found your next bike. I was reading the long - term review of the Indian Chieftain in Cycle World and the last line in this summary made me think of you :

We've all heard the sage advice, "Never buy the first-year model of any bike." What about the first-year motorcycle from a reborn manufacturer like Indian? Not a worry at all, in the case of our long-term Indian Chieftain because, in addition to being fun and easy to ride, it was also totally reliable. The bike ended its tour with a little more than 10,000 miles and tread remaining on its original tires.

Damn these tire THREADS are wack. Dave says to run 36psi for improved life, PES runs 42 psi and eats tires at 6k, MickeyBoy runs 42 and says he's at 15K on a Commander II
I'm running 38 on a Commander II and it looks like the tire will be done at 7K. I'm real fickle and check pressure almost every ride and keep it spot on. WTH

I'm with ya Gerpa. The consensus seems to be 6-7k miles on any tire, yet we have two members feduke and MickeyBoy who state they've got 15,000 miles on different tires. An Avon and an Commander II

I got 12,000 on my first Commander II and 15,000 on this one. I do not ride easy so we will see where the 3rd one gets me. Some things I'm religious on are checking tire pressure, oil levels, coolant levels, and snugging bolts every Friday since I do a lot of riding on the weekends.

you have the wrong air pressure in your tyres as the tyres are lasting too long

Actually, I also have a question...
Do you have any news or info (good or bad) on the Bridgestone Battlax S20 Hypersport 200/50/ZR17 ?????

Has anyone tried the Battlax? I have been offered a deal on a set for feedback.

Can't hurt to give them a go I reckon they will be my next tyre purchase, but some feedback would be good...

I mentioned earlier that the Trophy takes a similar sized-sized Z-rated tire and is also a heavy bike. For those interested in the comparison, here's the Trophy thread on tire wear: Link

I have just experienced the same wear pattern on my commander2, running 38/40 pressure. I have just learned how to align the rear wheel properly to eliminate the belt squeek. Most T/Birds are around 3mm out of alignment, and the indicator pips on the the frame are out.

Here's the stock Metz at around 7000 kms .... worst tire I've ever used, from worn down flat but not to the wear marks like the rear did
Was on a trip in New England and had to pay well over $800 for a new set installed

The Metz tires really suck, don't they?? 7000 Kilometers is ONLY alittle over 4000 miles by American standards. The Einstein that came up with the idea of runnin Metzler tires on these machines,[or any machine for that matter],otta be boiled in oil and THEN SHOT!! But then again, like most manufacturers, things like tires go out for bid and low bidder gets the contract.Look at the money Triumph saved by using these great tires. And then, they give the customer a royal fuckin when they bring their machine back to their friendly Triumph stealership for tire R+R,where they'll usually put the same exact POS tire back on because that's what came on it from the factory. Such a deal! Dave!!!

Two Commander 2 tyres wearing on the right hand side. Is this becoming the norm with these tyres?

If you drive on the LEFT side of the road where you live, and depending on the surface and angle of the crown of the road,it would not be unusual. We drive on the right side here in the States so it's not unusual for the tire to wear more on the LEFT SIDE,and also depends on the angle of the crown in the road. Dave!!!

No it's not been normal for me, with the rears anyway, I am on my second C2 which is close to being stuffed. They do wear a bit differently probably due to the dual compound. I have not tried a front one.
