With a heavy heart I was all set to sell the Thunderbird to help pay for the new GS.
The buyer I had lined up wanted out of the deal so I refunded his money.

However, the pillion says how horrible the GS passenger seat was for her and that she wants to keep the Triumph for 2 up. She said that perhaps she could go about a mile and that's about it. Keeping the Thunderbird. No arguments from me. I just ASSUMED (after being married 34 years) that one bike had to go to make room $$ for the other. So in her infinite wisdom she says to please (twist my arm) keep the Thunderbird for our 2 up rides. It is a road couch for sure and with the dual tour seat and back rest very comfortable for her.

Then the seller of the GS can't deliver a clean title so I had to give that bike back this morning. So I'm shopping for another GS and might look at the F800 GS and will test that next week. I really really like the R1200GS. It's just not a good 2 up bike I'm told.

I don't think that you can find a more comfortable 2 up bike other than a big cruiser( like a 1600) other than a Goldwing or K1600GTL.

But now we have an issue with too little space in the garage so she decides that we need a garage make over. I got real busy and ripped out my old POS particle board cabinets and garage sink and moved a water heater. Were painting the garage floor with epoxy and getting some awesome stainless fronted work benches and cabinets. She hated my home built work bench. I just can't argue at all about this.

I guess it's hard to find one bike to to everything.

These cabinets are from Sams Club and seem to be reasonably priced and good quality. Tool chests have roller bearings and come with rubber mat installed. Brand is Seville-Classics

Agree about the comfort. Mrs1600 has tried out lots of pillion seats and just can't get comfy on any other (FJR,R3,Pan Euro,Kawa plus more)

Top marks for the garage makeover. that looks a pleasure to work in.

Hi fishy.
Sometimes things are going like that. You have never thought of having two bikes and now you are quite forced to stay with the bird and additionally have the GS for fun.
Great moments
The garage just reminds me on an operation theatre, looks quite tidy and a bit sterile. I guess that will change if you start working in it...

Before going full-out, try the Tigers!

There's NOTHING out there that comes close to the Triple engine and it's character! Silky smooth - super torque - COMFORTABLE seats (especially the Tiger Explorer).

But I think I can understand you if your heart says a BMW has to be in the collection.
I first wanted the F800 GS - but I'm sooooooooooooooooooooooo glad I didn't.

Just my 2p worth of opinion.

I think Triumph is not doing a great job of advert as I had no freaking clue about the GS rival the Tiger Explorer 1200-thanks for this tip. I just can't buy a GS until I get to ride the Explorer.

I just read that the Explorer is more of a street bike than dirt bike which sounds exactly what I'm looking for. I want a dirt road bike, on that can go on fire roads and paved dirt roads with a few pot holes and some sand. In fact my front yard is unpaved come to think of it.

So thanks for the tip.
Front runner so far is the RT.

Give it a try - you never know, maybe it'll tick an additional box...

Here you go - my friends TEX and my 800XC.

The TEX has more stamina than the 800XC...
He kept wanting to have a nap....

I'd be careful, if the pillion decides the tiger is really comfortable she might decide that you don't need the bird.... and she's seen a lovely sofa that would look good in your living room.

Grab the opportunity when you can, don't lose it. 2 bikes, garage makeover, happy pillion. You might never get the opportunity again.

I'm hoping that the TEX will do it all and and be a comfortable for the Admiral for when she rides with me. I just can't see owning a bike that can't take us both aboard.

I lined up a demo for Friday and think the XC might be the way to go with all the extra stuff like fog lights and engine guards included. Most importantly the XC comes in a really good color. Matte Green. As every serious motorcyclist knows that the most important thing about a bike is what color it is. Right??

Plus cruise control is going to be very nice. I will report back after my test run.

A big bonus is that my little town has a very good (Streits) Triumph dealer whilst the BMW dealers are at least 2 hours away. Besides what would I do with all my Triumph Tee shirts and I can still get stuff from Fast Eddy.

It would be great to have a dedicated Tiger site like this forum is for Thunderbirds. I suppose that I could hang out here in "other bikes" This forum is really the best that I have found as far as ease of use and total freedom of what you can say.

Great garage, you yanks always seem to have the best facilities.

I got one & I'm afraid Mrs. Ted thought it was considerably comfier:

The Explorer forum is a bit anal though. This place tops the lot for irreverence, although there are still far too many spelling & grammatical errors creeping into the posts.

I may be back. There is still a chance that Mrs.Ted may say the same - "Go on, treat yourself"

The rumour was already out and true about your return to the wonderful county that is Yorkshire. That's why we're all off down to The Smoke for the weekend.

A suggestion that Matty lad was going to drive down due a little bit of water. 2 T'birds, 3 Rocket Roadsters and a Speed Triple will be outside Liz's gaff early Sunday morning for bacon butties.

Get yourself on the Peak and Yorkshire runs next year so we can give you some stick face to face.

Mrs is Ted has a great camera there - managing to take a picture of herself taking a picture.

Wow!

Thanks again to the great idea about the TEX. It does check all the boxes.

Picked one up yesterday at the local Triumph agency. Had no idea they were sort of scarce and when I went back to pick it up I had to let a few others test sit it. Now has a whopping 44 miles and I have to go back to work. I'm not going to bring it down to the big city until I learn to ride it a bit better.

On the way to the dealer the Tbird died which has never happened and then on the final approach there was a squeak the belt or brakes or belt but I did not care. Bye bye squeak squeak squeak.

\ I'm still on a Triumph so my tee shirts will work. I just have to be humble and not smoke my friends new 110 cu CVO Ultra Classic Limited ZOMGBBQWTF Harley. I think I will just let him smoke me.

The bike so much fun to drive on the dirt roads around here plus I am told it haul ass when needed. I read 11.8 1/4 miles and that's not too shabby.

Thanks for that encouragement Magpie, you're clearly a man of great perception and honour. Your ancestors must have been prison officers. I continue to lurk, primarily 'cos I need to keep tabs on the movement of that Yorkshire lot. I think of myself as an associate member (I still own some Tbird bits).

It'll be interesting to see what happens to Bluenose's BMI; I have noticed that Rocket (& Harley) owners develop a Body Mass Index in excess of 38. I'd estimate it at a healthy 24 at the mo, although cutting his legs off at the knee could affect it. My hypothesis is that he'll pork up by Christmas and there'll be some nice clothing for sale as he outgrows it. Mark my words.

Fishy: Best not mention back tyres - in 18k miles, I'm on my 5th. I share your pleasure (eh?)

I must admit BMI has come up in conversation (with Lady BlueNose) re her and every other female's dietary obsession but it appears this is spreading to the metrosexual male too. I have just checked my BMI for the very first time and I am considered overweight - what!!! BMI is 25 and I am officially a fat barsteward (according to the NHS website)!!! That must be why I have a Rocket - thank you professor Ted! Time you had a nap and some much needed beauty sleep.

I think you could leave the 'fat' bit out of that sentence, your too hard on yourself.

Just checked mine, apparently I am too short for my weight - only kidding, I'm bang on perfect.

Also checked the TBird Body Mass Indicator and it says I don't have to move up to a rocket. Checked your weight on it and it suggests getting a turbo fitted to the Rocket.
